For my materials I choose to use a Reinforced concrete Frame in the domino style, with open plan floors so if the usage changes over time that the rooms can be edited to fit the use. The building will be clad in Timber cladding, the reason for using this is to be aesthetically pleasing to the surroundings and can fit into nature without standing out to much. Site Location: Warley woodsThis is a Panoramic shot of the site. The Trees are accountable for about 45% of our site, obviously in relation to the ornithologist thats useful for his research and study of the birds habitat and the environment surrounding the immediate habitat. Site History1066-1500 The area now known as Warley Woods was originally part of the community of Warley Salop. The area of land, which would become Warley Woods Park, was goverened by Halesowen Abbey. 1500-1900 The Warley estate came into existence roughly after 1538. The Warley Hall estate is cited in documents during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It was in the hands of the Warley Family until around 1753 where the ownership passed unto the Galton family. They employed an Architect called Humphry Repton whose commission it was to create a setting beautiful enough for the estate overlooking the surroundings. 1900-Present The Warley estate passed from the Galton family into the hands of different owners. Around 1905 residents were concerned that the owner might sell the land for housing, because of the housing market expanding rapidly in Bearwood at that time. The owner of Chance’s glassworks, negotiated a deal to buy Warley Woods. So the residents concerned about the loss of green space, raised money by public donation and the rest was provided by Birmingham City Council. At the opening ceremony Chance said: ‘I want it to be known as the People’s Park, for never was there a park in the Midlands before that was paid for directly by the money of the people’. In 1914 the Abbey was used as a home for Belgian refugees. A number of features were added or donated to the park including an aviary, on the site of the car park by Abbey road, various drinking fountains, tennis courts and a bowling green. Today, very few of the historic features have survived. The small stream which once ran though the site is now filled in, the Abbey, Tor, gardens, ice house and glasshouses have all been demolished. In response to that lack of management by various councils, Warley Woods Community Trust has taken over management of the Park. The Trust, in keeping with the ideals of Alexander Macombe Chance and the people of 1906 Bearwood, are working to make Warley Woods, once again, the People’s Park. The park is now managed by Warley Woods Community Trust, a voluntary organisation and charity. It also has been grade II listed by the English heritage since September 1994, so as to stop further demolishing and destruction of the Woodland. Ornithologist are very interested in the preservation of bird species thats why they fight put legislations in place, so that endangered species and species under threat are not harmed by landowners or the likes. Ornithology and Bird conservation go hand in hand.
Client: matthew tracyClient Requirements for a home/accomodationMy Client is a Ornithologist and a avid Birdwatcher, because of his profession in ornithology is not just a hobby its his way of life, so all aspects of his life are geared towards birds, whether it be protection, conservation, ringing birds and tracking migrating birds. My client often visits the RSPB reserves to spot birds and track them, when he goes to visit the parks and reserves he takes his Ornithology equipment with him which often consist of his Binoculars, Notebook, Atlas of birds and listening devices. My Client would like a home or an accommodation which would be eco-friendly, and would encourage wildlife to inhabit the surrounding areas. Ideally the building would create a self sustaining eco-system maybe with planted reeds or hedges to attract nesting birds. The home would have to basic amenities such as a Bathroom, Kitchen, Bedroom and Storage and an office to take notes and document birds. Part of his Job is to observe birds so ideal in his home an observation tower/hut would be ideal. Standard RequirementsDesign 3 individual units:
